Claude returns in Elektra by Richard Strauss at The Metropolitan Opera

Claude returns in her role the Daughter of Elektra's nanny/maid.

The genius director Patrice Chéreau (From the House of the Dead) didn’t live to see his great Elektra production, previously presented in Aix and Milan, make it to the stage of the Met. But his overpowering vision lives on with soprano Nina Stemme—unmatched today in the heroic female roles of Strauss and Wagner—who portrays Elektra’s primal quest for vengeance for the murder of her father, Agamemnon. Legendary mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier is chilling as Elektra’s fearsome mother, Klytämnestra. Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka and bass-baritone Eric Owens are Elektra’s troubled siblings. Chéreau’s musical collaborator Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts Strauss’s mighty take on Greek myth.

A torrid love affair that has fizzled and has left the lovers broken and distraught, still wanting the love back. The lovers can't reconcile and are left heart broken, missing a part of themselves.

Claude performing in Salome at The Metropolitan Opera.

Richard Strauss' story of this incendiary and powerful opera is derived from a brief biblical account: a young princess of Judea dances for her stepfather Herod and chooses as her reward the head of the prophet John the Baptist. This subject captured the imaginations of generations of visual artists, but its full possibilities were perhaps best realized in Oscar Wilde’s 1891 tragedy (which was banned from performance in several countries). Strauss’s score combines the grandeur of Wagner’s epics with the focus and emotional punch of the short Italian verismo operas.

The action takes place outside the palace of King Herod Antipas, tetrarch of Galilee, in the early first century AD. The present production places the scene in a non-specific contemporary setting.

Claude performing in L’Italiana in Algeri at The Metropolitan Opera

James Levine conducts this comedy of a feisty Italian girl turning the tables on her bumbling captors via Rossini’s blend of madness and fun. Mezzo-soprano Marianna Pizzolato makes her Met debut in the title role, opposite tenor René Barbera and baritone Nicola Alaimo. Bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov plays the pasha who is overcome by love and pasta.

From the Realm of the Shadow  A Contemporary Dance Theatre Staging of an Epic Opera

Press release

New York, NY  May 2-3/2013

Composer Chris Mohr was 19 years old when he barely rescued a young woman from a gang-rape and confronted our “Shadow,” that which we reject in ourselves. The epic musical journey takes the audience on a journey through violence, trauma, healing, forgiveness, and finally that healing peace which even the most reprehensible acts cannot destroy.

This New York “workshop” production far exceeded all our expectations. Composer Chris Mohr joined creative forces with theatre artists Christa Ray and Jeremy Williams to create the first-ever staging of this epic music drama through dance/physical acting.

A wordless two-hour music drama first recorded by the National Symphony and Choir of Ukraine and released on Naxos Records in 2001, received its first live performances in New York May 2-3.

Factions are at war. A woman is raped. A child is born whose radiance inspires healing and reconciliation. A hero’s journey, a woman’s awakening, celebration, a tragic loss. Will the factions come to peace
